Grenadier, The
Location : Old Barrack Yard, Wilton Row Nearest Tube (Underground)
Station : Hyde Park Corner An extremely well hidden pub tucked away in
a mews behind the grand houses of Knightsbridge, this attractive little
place used to be a regular drinking haunt of the Duke of Wellington.
Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese
Location: Wine Office Court (off Fleet Street) The traditional view of
a good English pub tends to evoke visions of oak beams, open fires,
ancient crooked rooms and dark cosy interiors. It's a strange fact that
with nearly 5,500 pubs, London has only a very small number of such
establishments.
The Anglesea Arms
Location: 15 Selwood Terrace Nearest Tube (Underground) Station: South
Kensington A superb pub, which surprisingly despite salubrious area is
part of London's gangster past: this is where the Great Train Robbery
was planned! This pub has no TV's, no fruit machines and no music which
is often the sign of a decent boozer.
Beirodrome
Location : 173-174 Upper Street
Nearest Tube (Underground) Station : Angel
This is the place to go if Continental beer is your thing. Even if it's not there are over 200 to chose from so I'm ...
The Blackfriar
Location: 174 Queen Victoria Street Nearest Tube (Underground) Station:
Blackfriars One of London's most bizarre pubs and a favourite of Sir
John Betjeman, a much loved Poet Laureate, The Blackfriar is a fantasy
of art nouveau decoration recalling the monks of the eponymous
monastery that stood nearby.
Blind Beggar, The
Location: 337 Whitechapel Road Tube: Whitechapel Part of
London folklore, this is the pub where Reggie Kray shot George Cornell
(the murder that finally put the Krays, London's most notorious
gangsters, in prison for good).
Churchill Arms, The
Location: 119 Kensington Church Street Tube: High Street Kensington
One of London's best pubs (voted Evening Standards pub of the year). You can't get more English than this: the walls are ...
Cittie of Yorke, The
Location: 22 High Holborn Tube: Holborn The huge Victorian
clock on the front of this building suggests that there may be
something of interest behind the façade. A pub has stood here since
around 1430 and continues to serve the needs of barristers and
solicitors from the nearby chambers.
Claridges's Bar
Location: Claridge's Hotel, Brook Street Tube: Bond Street
Beautifully calming, elegant, chic little bar in arguably London's most
prestigious hotel. If you enter through the main door of the hotel,
you'll be greeted by a phalanx of liveried doormen, footmen and valets.
Cork & Bottle
Location: 44-46 Cranbourne Street Tube: Leicester Square A
London stalwart, the Cork and Bottle is a very welcome relief from the
barrenness of Leicester Square. You'll have a problem finding the place
as you need to descend from street level.
